The Metro Chamber Orchestra begins its 5th Season again spotlighting contemporary arrangements of standard repertoire as well as new music.  This year the unique arranging skills of the contemporary German composer Andreas Tarkmann are highlighted.  He recently debuted Prelude and Liebestod from “ Tristan und Isolde” by Wagner, and the incidental music from Beethoven’s “ Egmont “ will receive their American debut.  Soprano, Therese Panicali, will return to sing her first Wagner.

Metropolitan Opera auditions winner Donna Zapola Connolly joins Maestro Philip Nuzzo in the Tarkmann arrangement of selected songs by Giuseppe Verdi in our second concert.   Also on the program will be composer in residence Sean Hickey’s “Ampersand for Violin and String Orchestra” with Julia Sakarova as soloist.  The season concludes with a slightly off-beat arrangement of Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” as arranged by Chinese composer Julian Yu.

In July 2008, the orchestra will begin a two week residency in an emerging professional opera program performing fully staged productions of “Don Giovanni” and “The Barber of Seville”.
